Why do you want to go to Pakistan?

As a future U.S. Diplomat, I want understand the role Pakistan plays in the Middle East and around the world. My limited knowledge on Pakistan has been shaped from international affairs books and newspapers during the War on Terror. Growing up, every conversation I heard about Pakistan and the Middle East had to do with fighting terrorism -- it was a narrative created by the countries involved in the war. Since arriving at Fletcher, I began to interact with classmates from Pakistan who have opened my eyes to Pakistan’s rich culture and the goodness of its people. This educational trip will give me the opportunity to learn first hand about Pakistan’s culture, government, its people, and most importantly, I will learn about ways Pakistan can become a stronger country in the region and a stronger partner for the US.
