Prior to Fletcher, he spent his career working in the U.S. criminal justice system, including the local prison, court, and law enforcement sectors. Why do you want to go to Pakistan?

I’ve never been to South Asia or any country with a predominantly Muslim culture. I’ve read about the region through news articles and some literature, but I would be naive to think that it has always been an objective, unbiased perspective. At Fletcher, I enrolled in the Islam and Politics course as a first step to break away from some of the rhetoric we are frequently exposed to in the U.S. about the Muslim world and to get a more nuanced understanding of the region’s history and culture. This trip offers me the opportunity to directly engage with and listen to those that can best speak on some of these themes and issues.
